At the turn of the century, Television had three prominent sidekicks, the Doctor, the Witch, and the Bard. All were diminutive
women with reddish hair.
Dana Scully, Willow Rosenberg, and Gabrielle had another similarity. Rosenberg was openly gay, Gabrielle wasn't not gay,
and Scully never dated anybody that we knew of.
All of them could be called bookish. All of them had at least one vampire related episode.
Xena:Warrior Princess is referenced in both The X-Files (Episode 13 Season 7 "First Person Shooter") and Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Episode 6 Season 2 "Halloween"). Buffy the Vampire Slayer is referenced in Xena, not in The X-Files. (Episode 14 Season 4 "The Play's the Thing"). The X-Files is only referenced in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the verb to scully in "The Pack" Episode 6 Season 1 and the verb "to mulder" in "Gone" Episode 11 Season 6), not in Xena.
